Wednesday Wisdom 08
The mental gymnastics that my brain goes through to spell Wednesday correctly remains puzzling to me, no matter how old I get. Kinda like life.
There’s no doubt I need God’s wisdom to guide me every day. But I need extra on Wednesdays.
Well, What Do You Know?
This has become one of my favorite Quotes of the Day.
It resonates with me on so many levels.
I know that too much sugar is not good for me.
But I feel sad, so I want to eat an entire pint of strawberry cheesecake ice cream tonight.
I know I will not function well tomorrow if I don’t get enough sleep tonight.
But I feel emotionally stimulated and intrigued by the plot of a new book I’m reading.
I know I don’t have the bandwidth to take on another project right now.
But I feel guilty for saying no to a friend.
Right there, top-of-mind for the taking, are three life matters that invite a proper know vs. feel tug-of-war situation for me almost daily – food, rest and responsibility.
Do any come to mind for you?
I bet.
The quote’s on point. The know-feel struggles in life are real.
When it comes to the know-feel battles I have related to my faith, the road to my victory and inner peace is always found by meditating on the truths in Scripture.
I may feel afraid.
But I know that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Tim. 1:7).
And I know that the Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? (Ps. 27:1).
I may feel unworthy of His love.
But I know that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Rom. 3:23-24, NIV).
I may feel indecisive.
But I know that if I trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding, but in all my ways acknowledge Him, He will make my paths straight. (Prov. 3:5-6).
I may feel sad.
But I know that Thou, oh Lord are a shield about me, You’re my glory and the lifter of my head. (Ps. 3:3).
I may feel defeated.
But I know that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Rom. 8:37).
And I know that His power is made perfect in my weakness. (2 Cor. 12:9).
If you should ever find yourself feeling afraid, unworthy, indecisive, sad or defeated, I hope you’ll look to Jesus for comfort and wisdom.
I hope you’ll reread these verses and see the Savior, the Great Redeemer, the straight-path maker, the head lifter and the Mighty Conqueror that I know He is.
